- 2,000 notes searchable. The search index holds your oldest 2,000 notes, ranked by creation time. Everything past that still syncs and still opens normally, it is simply not in the search index. So once you are over the cap, new notes you write will not be findable by search until a slot frees. Deleting an indexed note frees one. Paid tiers index everything.

Device swaps and the 24-hour cooldown
Section titled “Device swaps and the 24-hour cooldown”Free allows 2 devices at a time. Disconnecting one and connecting a third starts a 24-hour cooldown before the next swap is allowed. This stops one account being rotated across an unlimited number of machines. Paid tiers have unlimited devices and no cooldown.

Free trial
Section titled “Free trial”Starter and Pro both begin with a 7-day free trial. A payment method is required to start it. You are not charged during the trial. When the 7 days end, the plan you chose starts and your card is charged automatically at the listed price (monthly or annual, whichever cadence you picked) unless you cancel before the trial ends. Cancelling during the trial costs nothing.
The Free tier is not a trial and never requires a card.

What happens if I downgrade or cancel
Section titled “What happens if I downgrade or cancel”Short version: existing notes always stay readable. Engram doesn’t delete data on downgrade. Once you’re over the new tier’s caps, new writes return a quota error and you get a 30-day grace window to trim down or re-upgrade. Cancel is different: 30-day grace, then soft-delete, then hard-delete after day 60. Full timeline in Upgrade & Downgrade and Refund & Cancel.
