Meta Muse

Meta Muse connects to Engram over MCP. Once connected, Muse can search and read your notes and save new ones, limited to the vaults you approve.

Before you start, confirm:

  • You have an Engram account at app.engram.page.
  • At least one vault is synced. Open the Obsidian plugin or the web app and confirm notes have synced within the last day.
  • You can sign in via browser. The MCP auth flow opens a browser window.
  • If you plan to use an API key instead of OAuth: API keys need Pro. OAuth sign-in works on every tier, including Free, and is the recommended path. Free and Starter cannot create or use API keys.

1. Add a custom connector. In Muse, open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. You can also ask Muse in chat to add a custom connector. Use these values:

  • Name: Engram
  • URL: the endpoint above
  • Transport: remote (streamable HTTP)
  • Authentication: OAuth

2. If Muse asks for a Client ID. Some versions of the form will not enable Add until you enter one. Register a client for Muse with this command, then paste the client_id from the response into the form:

Terminal window
curl -X POST https://mcp.engram.page/oauth/register \
-H 'content-type: application/json' \
-d '{"client_name":"Muse","redirect_uris":["https://agent.meta.ai/api/hatch/oauth/callback"],"token_endpoint_auth_method":"none","grant_types":["authorization_code","refresh_token"],"response_types":["code"]}'

This creates a public client with no secret. Leave any client secret field empty.

3. Approve. Muse opens Engram in your browser. Sign in, choose the vaults Muse may use, and approve. Muse can only reach the vaults you picked.

Start a new chat in Muse and ask:

  • Search my vault for notes about the engineering interview process and summarize the top three.
  • Find anything I wrote about embeddings in the last month.

If Muse calls Engram’s search_notes tool and answers from your notes, you’re set.

Muse sees the same tools as every MCP client. Tools lists each one with its Read, Write or Sensitive write classification.

On the Pro plan you can create an Engram API key and use it as a bearer token instead of OAuth. See MCP Config → API Key Authentication.

To disconnect Muse from Engram:

  1. In Muse, find the connector or MCP server entry and remove it.
  2. In the Engram app, open Settings → Connections and click Revoke on the matching connection or API key.
  3. A revoked API key stops working immediately. A revoked OAuth connection can no longer renew its access, and its current access token expires within 15 minutes. Muse will need to re-authenticate to reconnect.
