Usage statistics

Ce contenu n’est pas encore disponible dans votre langue.

A self-hosted Engram instance sends a small, anonymous daily ping so we can count how many instances exist and which platforms they run on. It is on by default, it never contains your notes, and one environment variable turns it off.

Either of these stops the ping:

HowEffect
ENGRAM_TELEMETRY=falseNever send. Overrides the setting below.
Administration → Usage statisticsUntick Send anonymous usage stats.

ENGRAM_TELEMETRY=true (or leaving it unset) leaves the decision to the Administration setting.

Engram does not hide the default. The container logs a line at boot saying the ping is on and how to turn it off, and Administration → Usage statistics shows the setting and the exact payload.

An instance with no outbound internet access keeps working normally; a failed ping is dropped and nothing retries.

One HTTPS POST per day to https://api.engram.page/api/telemetry/ping with this body, and nothing else:

idA random UUID generated once and stored in your instance database. It is not derived from your hostname, hardware, or any user data.
versionThe Engram version you run.
oslinux, darwin, windows, or other.
archamd64, arm64, or other.
runtimedocker or source.

The same payload is shown under Administration → Usage statistics, so you can read it before you decide.

Notes, vault names or counts, user accounts or emails, hostnames, and anything else about how you use the instance.

The collector does not store your IP address. The server uses it in memory to rate-limit requests and discards it. As with any request to a website, the network provider in front of api.engram.page (Cloudflare) handles the connection.

Counting active instances (those that pinged in the last 30 days) by platform and version, to decide what to test and support.

A record is deleted 35 days after its last ping. An instance that stops pinging, because it was shut down or you turned the ping off, drops out of our data within about a month.

Email privacy@engram.page. If you are asking about a specific instance, include its install ID, shown under Administration → Usage statistics.
