First Sync
First sync is the one-time push of your vault to Engram. The plugin walks you through it the first time you open the settings page — nothing to push manually.
Open the plugin settings
Section titled “Open the plugin settings”In Obsidian: Settings → Community plugins → Engram Vault Sync (click the gear icon). This is the plugin’s settings tab and where every sign-in / backend / sync option lives.
Choose cloud or self-host
Section titled “Choose cloud or self-host”At the top of the settings page, pick your backend:
- Cloud — point at
app.engram.page. The default. Use this if you signed up atapp.engram.page. - Self-Host — point at your own backend URL (e.g.
https://engram.yourdomain.com). Use this if you’re running the self-host stack.
The plugin remembers the choice per vault.
Section titled “Sign in”Click Sign in in the settings page. A browser window opens to the backend’s OAuth screen — approve it. The browser hands the token back to Obsidian and the plugin confirms sign-in in the status bar.
Complete the first-sync modal
Section titled “Complete the first-sync modal”As soon as sign-in completes, the plugin shows the First Sync modal automatically. The modal walks you through the one-time vault snapshot push.
Snapshot speed depends on vault size: a few hundred notes finishes in seconds, tens of thousands of notes can take a few minutes. Don’t quit Obsidian during the initial push.
After the first sync
Section titled “After the first sync”The plugin is now live. Edits in Obsidian propagate within a couple seconds. Edits from other devices (web app, another Obsidian install) appear in your vault automatically.
Open app.engram.page and your vault
should be browsable in seconds.
Next: Sync Center.
